Acquiring Basic Needs/Preparing
Many of us are concerned about a SHTF (shit hit the fan) situation. Most believe this would be due to an economic crash, EMP (electromagnetic pulse), or deadly virus (just to list a few examples). The truth is, losing a source of income, major fire, or some other personal tragedy can be an individual’s SHTF situation. Being prepared for the personal or national disasters is intelligent and prudent.
Homeowners insurance is a form of property insurance that covers losses and damages to an individual's house and assets in the home. The policy usually covers interior damage, exterior damage, loss or damage of personal assets, and injury that arises while on the property. Automobile insurance is primarily used to provide financial protection against physical damage or bodily injury resulting from traffic collisions and against liability that could also arise from incidents in a vehicle. Healthcare insurance is a type of insurance that covers the whole or a part of the risk of a person incurring medical expenses. There are many other types of insurance as well. Why do most people not insure themselves against potential disasters? Sure, some have hurricane insurance or flood insurance, but that does not cover your ability to feed, clothe, or protect yourself or loved ones. At least, not right away.
I believe being prepared for the large and small disasters that await each and every one of us is prudent. Preparedness is a necessary type of insurance. Having a warm secure place to go, potable water and food available, as well as first aid needs, in the event of a disaster is imperative.
“We all try to keep what we have and endeavor to acquire more” (Mike Klepper 2024)
Some individuals will presume preparing to be expensive and out of reach for those who have few assets to spare. It can be if an individual jumps wholeheartedly into the abyss. The prepping world has a legion of oracles and prophets that will lead you on a myriad of travels down endless chasms of information overload. I am not saying these wells of information are wrong or useless, but they can divert an individual from the main purpose of prepping and cause discouragement. My point being, do not focus on only one area of interest and let others fall by the side. Focusing on food without considering first aid or security will inevitably cause an individual to fail in their preparations. Each area of focus must be considered and realized.

There is a limitation to traditional prepping: if you have a 90 day supply of food, then there are three possibilities for day 91:
ReplyDelete1. Purchase or barter with someone with food
2. Grow/produce your your own food
3. Hope the conditions that caused the SHTF have passed
